Sharon Marie Chester
Sharon Marie Chester, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker from St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, with more than two decades of lived experience applying social work values, ethics, and advocacy in anti-racist practice. Her work focuses on the role of social workers and mental health professionals in confronting racism at the personal, professional, and institutional levels through honest dialogue, critical self-reflection, solidarity, and action. Drawing from her clinical background, community organizing experience, and direct engagement in anti-racist advocacy, Sharon challenges professionals to move beyond cultural competence and into cultural change. Her teaching emphasizes the ethical responsibility of social workers and clinicians to interrupt oppressive discourse, examine the narratives and systems that sustain racism, and show up courageously in the ongoing work of justice.
