Live Event - 11/20/26 - 12-1pm EST - Ethical Boundaries in the Therapy Room: Managing Emotional Overreach, Rescue Fantasies, and Role Confusion
Course Description
Therapeutic relationships can evoke strong emotions for both clients and clinicians. This live event explores the subtle ways professional boundaries can become blurred, particularly when clinicians feel deeply invested in helping, protecting, or “rescuing” a client. Participants will examine the difference between boundary crossings and ethical violations, recognize rescue dynamics and over-identification, and practice using ethical decision-making strategies when emotions run high.
Learning Objectives
- Differentiate between appropriate boundary crossings and ethical boundary violations in therapeutic practice.
- Identify signs of rescue dynamics, over-identification, and role confusion within the clinician-client relationship.
- Apply an ethical decision-making framework to boundary-related situations involving heightened emotions or competing professional responsibilities.
