Live Event - 1/15/27 - 10am-1pm EST - When Clients are Stuck: Working with Avoidance, Shutdown, and Treatment Resistance in Trauma Therapy

Course Description

Struggling with sessions where trauma clients go quiet, deflect, or stall out? This live event breaks down how to recognize whether a trauma client is experiencing emotional avoidance, nervous system shutdown, or treatment resistance using clear clinical markers. You will gain brief, practical strategies to safely re-engage trauma clients and restore momentum without pathologizing their protective defenses.

Learning Objectives
  1. Identify the difference between avoidance, shutdown, and true treatment resistance when treating trauma, using observable clinical markers.
  2. Recognize dissociation, ambivalence, and nervous system shutdown without pathologizing your client and maintaining your own self-regulation
  3. Understand and work with protective defenses, rather than pushing past them, to keep treatment moving forward in a safe, supportive space.
