Course Description: Family work can feel complex, emotionally charged, and difficult to structure, especially when multiple perspectives, histories, and needs are present in the room. This 3-hour live continuing education course, led by V. Paige Walker, LMSW, will demystify the foundations of effective family work by exploring how clinicians can engage family systems with clarity, confidence, and compassion.
Participants will examine practical strategies for building rapport, identifying relational patterns, navigating conflict, and maintaining a trauma-informed, strengths-based, and anti-oppressive lens. The course will support clinicians in developing more grounded, intentional, and responsive approaches when working with families across diverse settings.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify key principles of effective family work, including engagement, assessment, communication patterns, and relational dynamics.
- Apply trauma-informed and strengths-based strategies to support families navigating conflict, transition, stress, and complex emotional needs.
- Develop practical interventions for structuring family sessions, managing multiple perspectives, and promoting collaborative problem-solving.
