Course Description: This Lunch and Learn will explore maternal health disparities among women of color through the lens of Ecological Systems Theory (EST). Using the case study of Ashley Brown, participants will examine how systemic, community, and individual-level factors intersect to impact maternal outcomes. The session will also highlight the role of community-based doulas as culturally responsive interventions that promote birth equity and holistic care.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the four levels of Ecological Systems Theory and explain how each level contributes to disparities in maternal health among women of color.
- Analyze the case of Ashley Brown to illustrate how intersecting systemic barriers affect maternal physical and mental health outcomes.
