Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify emerging ethical challenges facing modern practitioners.
  2. Apply a culturally responsive ethical decision-making model to real cases.
  3. Analyze how power, identity, and intersectionality influence ethical judgment.
  4. Implement documentation strategies that support defensible ethical choices.

Instructor Bio(s):

Dr. Dominique Phinn

Dominique is a passionate advocate and practitioner dedicated to transforming Black maternal mental health outcomes through research, education, and community-based support. With a Doctorate in Social Work (DSW) from Yeshiva University, her work centers on addressing the Black maternal mental health crisis by integrating culturally responsive care, doula support, and trauma-informed practices.

Dominique’s expertise spans clinical practice, teaching, and research, where I emphasize the importance of maternal mental health, equitable healthcare access, and community empowerment. Her mission is to create safe, affirming spaces for Black birthing people to access holistic, mental health-driven care during the perinatal period.

Dominique is committed to bridging gaps in maternal healthcare, amplifying Black voices, and fostering environments where Black mothers thrive before, during, and after birth. Through clinical work, research dissemination, and community collaboration, she aims to reshape maternal health narratives for Black families.

Dr. Karen White

Karen has a doctorate in Social Work (DSW) and is a NYS licensed social worker with over 15 years of experience. Karen brings a rare blend of expertise across corporate finance, public education, health equity, and higher education. Karen’s career has taken her from the equity research desks of Morgan Stanley and Lehman Brothers to the frontlines of public schools, hospitals, and academic institutions—where she’s mentored the next generation of social workers and led cross-sector wellness initiatives.

Karen is SIFI certified and has proudly served as a Field Instructor, Practicum Advisor, and Adjunct Professor, supervising BSW and MSW students with a focus on reflective practice, professional readiness, and culturally responsive care. Her leadership roles within academic and union settings have sharpened my skills in advocacy, policy implementation, and systems navigation.
