About The Live CE Event

Course Description: This 3-hour continuing education course helps mental health professionals build greater confidence and competence when facilitating therapeutic groups.

Participants will explore practical strategies for creating safety, encouraging engagement, managing conflict, and responding to challenging group dynamics. The course will also address ethical considerations, boundaries, and the clinician’s role in supporting meaningful group interaction.

Attendees will leave with concrete tools they can apply across a variety of clinical settings and group formats.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify and apply core group facilitation skills that promote engagement, rapport, trust, and psychological safety among group members.

  2. Recognize and effectively manage common group dynamics and challenging participant behaviors, including over-sharing, under-sharing, conflict, resistance, and attendance concerns.

  3. Develop, implement, and evaluate effective groups by utilizing needs assessments, establishing appropriate boundaries and group norms, understanding stages of group development, and incorporating participant feedback to improve outcomes.

Instructor Bio(s):

Stephanie Clarke, LCSW

Stephanie is a Doctor of Social Work student at the University at Buffalo, where she is developing specialized expertise in implementation science to strengthen, scale, and sustain effective social work practice across educational, clinical, and community settings. Stephanie serves as a professor of Social Work at Nazareth University, where she teaches a range of courses, including Anti-Oppressive Practice, Cultural Diversity, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Advanced Practice with Individuals and Families, and Clinical Interventions: Practice with Groups.

In addition to her academic work, Stephanie serves as a clinical and educational consultant through her consulting practice, partnering with Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES (PNW BOCES), a regional educational consortium that supports school districts across New York. Through this work, she helps design and implement professional development focused on educational equity, trauma-informed practice, community building, and evidence-based clinical programming. Her clinical experience includes supporting children, adolescents, families, and couples through Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and strengths-based approaches.

Stephanie’s research interests are diverse and interdisciplinary, spanning the implementation of mental health initiatives in educational settings, neuroscience, global health, climate justice, and social innovation. Her scholarship seeks to understand the behavioral mechanisms that influence individual, organizational, and community change. Across her roles in clinical practice, consulting, research, and higher education, Stephanie brings a systems-level perspective to improving organizational culture and advancing equitable, sustainable change.
