Course Description: Participants will examine how power dynamics and cultural context shape meaning-making, coping, and identity for individuals and communities. Through discussion and applied exercises, attendees will learn how to use PTMF-informed practices to support client empowerment, narrative reconstruction, and relational healing.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explain the core components of the Power Threat Meaning Framework and how it differs from traditional diagnostic approaches to trauma.
  2. Analyze how power dynamics, cultural context, and meaning-making processes influence client narratives and trauma responses.
  3. Apply PTMF-informed narrative techniques to support client empowerment, identity development, and collaborative healing in clinical practice.

Instructor Bio(s):

Dr. Meagan Mitchell

Meagan is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has been providing continuing education for more than 10 years! She loves combining her passion for learning and sharing her knowledge with the social work community.

Meagan also has a strong interest in tech and innovation, specifically exploring the intersection of technology with social work practices. She is also passionate about multicultural supervision and ethics; ensuring diverse voices are heard, understood, and supported in supervision and consultation. Meagan is skilled in early childhood education, conflict resolution, interventions, and management.

Meagan is a strong community and social services professional with a Masters of Social Work focused in Interpersonal Practice with Children, Youth, and Families in Society from the University of Michigan School of Social Work. She also has a Masters in Education and obtained her Doctor of Social Work from the University of Buffalo.
