Course Description: This training examines the biopsychosocial nature of chronic pain, highlighting how the brain and nervous system play a central role in pain processing and somatic manifestations. Participants will review foundational theories and definitions of pain, gain psychoeducation on the neurobiology of pain, and learn practical strategies for applying this knowledge in clinical settings. Emphasis will be placed on evidence-based interventions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Pain Reprocessing Therapy. Child-specific adaptations will be discussed, as well as strategies for facilitating effective conversations between individuals experiencing pain and their support networks. Throughout, the training emphasizes fostering safety, resilience, and mind-body connection to help clients shift from fear-based to empowered approaches to pain management.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explain the role of the brain and nervous system in the development and maintenance of chronic and neuroplastic pain.
  2. Apply evidence-based interventions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Pain Reprocessing Therapy, and integrative mind-body strategies, to support effective pain management.
  3. Identify strategies to engage family members and support networks in conversations that reduce fear and reinforce safety for individuals living with pain.
