About The Course

Course Title: Parenting Strategies

Learning Method: Record asynchronous distance (non-interactive). This course includes a recorded video and access to the presented resources.

Amount of CE Credit Offered: 1.5 general credits. ASWB ACE and NBCC.

Fees: This course can be purchased individually for $25 or as part of an annual unlimited continuing education subscription available for $99/year.

Posttest: Following the course, the participant will take a 15 question posttest. A score of 70% correct is required to pass and obtain a certificate. If you do not pass the posttest, it can be re-taken after fully reviewing the materials again. 

Certificate of CompletionIn order to receive a certificate of completion, you must indicate that you’ve watched the entire video portion of the course, earn a passing grade on the test, and complete the requested course evaluation.

Instructor Bio(s):

Stephanie Lopez

Stephanie is a licensed social worker, educator, and clinical consultant with extensive experience supporting diverse populations in school and clinical settings. As a former school social worker and Clinical Director at an Eating Disorder clinic, she has dedicated her career to fostering inclusivity, equity, and student success. With expertise in both direct clinical practice and large-scale educational consulting, Stephanie has worked closely with schools and organizations to implement effective, research-based strategies that enhance child development and family dynamics.

In addition to her work in schools, Stephanie previously managed a private practice in Westchester County and is the founder of a clinical consulting firm specializing in professional development and CEU training for educators, social workers, psychologists, and university faculty. Her passion for empowering families and professionals through education makes her an invaluable voice in the Agents of Change Community. Stephanie’s dynamic background equips her with the insight and expertise to help parents, caregivers, and professionals create supportive environments that foster communication, trust, and positive relationships.

1) Understanding Parenting Styles and Their Impact

  • Overview of the four main parenting styles (Authoritative, Authoritarian, Permissive, Uninvolved)
  • How parenting approaches shape child behavior, confidence, and emotional regulation
  • The importance of flexibility in parenting strategies

2) The Role of Safety in Child Development

  • Defining physical, emotional, and psychological safety in parenting
  • How a secure environment fosters learning, growth, and resilience
  • The impact of a parent’s own well-being on their ability to create a safe home

3) Effective Communication and Trust-Building

  • The power of bi-directional communication between parents and children
  • Strategies for encouraging open dialogue and active listening
  • The role of emotional validation and constructive discipline in strengthening relationships

4) The Influence of Role Modeling and Environment

  • How children absorb behaviors from parents and their surroundings
  • The significance of positive role models in shaping emotional intelligence and social skills
  • Encouraging self-regulation, problem-solving, and decision-making in children

5) Empowering Children Through Inclusion and Engagement

  • Moving from distraction-based parenting to inclusion-based parenting

  • Assigning responsibilities and fostering independence through daily routines

  • Using praise and encouragement to build confidence and a growth mindset

Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 7/26/2023 – 7/26/2027. Social workers completing this course receive 1 continuing education credit.
