Courses Included: 

  1. Vicarious Trauma – Preventing Burnout in the Workplace

    This course aims to provide participants with a deeper understanding of the effects of vicarious trauma on the mental health and well-being of social workers, and to equip them with the knowledge and skills to prevent burnout in their workplace.

    The course will cover a range of topics, including the definition and symptoms of vicarious trauma, the impact of vicarious trauma on the social work profession, and strategies for self-care and self-awareness to prevent burnout. It will also provide participants with practical tools and techniques to manage stress and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

  2. Trauma-Informed Care

    This course equips participants with the knowledge and skills to implement trauma-informed principles in healthcare settings. It covers understanding trauma, creating safe environments, empowering patients, and fostering therapeutic relationships. By integrating these practices, healthcare professionals can enhance patient well-being and support trauma recovery effectively.

  3. Veteran Mental Health

    In this course, you’ll learn to analyze and identify barriers to mental healthcare for veterans. Participants will analyze the unique psychological and logistical barriers that veterans encounter, with the intent to differentiate them from those faced by the general population. Additionally, you’ll learn about and assess peer support techniques, discussing the influence of military culture on mental health dialogue and willingness to seek help and will outline recommendations for fostering more open conversations within the military and veteran communities. Finally, you’ll develop strategies for enhancing medical health services, emphasizing intersectionality and cultural humility.

  4. Intergenerational Trauma

    Explore Intergenerational Trauma in Social Work: Learn to identify and address the unique characteristics of intergenerational trauma, embrace multidisciplinary treatment approaches, and assess the impact of societal factors on trauma perpetuation.

Learning Method: Record asynchronous distance (non-interactive). These courses include a recorded video and access to the presented resources.

Amount of CE Credit Offered: 4 credits (general)

Fees: This bundle of 4 courses can be purchased individually for $50 or as part of an annual unlimited continuing education subscription available for $99/year.

Posttest: Following each course, the participant will take a 10 question posttest. A score of 70% correct is required to pass and obtain a certificate. If you do not pass the posttest, it can be re-taken after fully reviewing the materials again. 

Certificate of CompletionIn order to receive a certificate of completion for each course, you must indicate that you’ve watched the entire video portion of the course, earn a passing grade on the test, and complete the requested course evaluation.

Instructor Bio(s):

Meagan Mitchell is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has been providing individualized and group instruction for over 5 years.

Meagan is currently a Child and Adolescent Therapist with The Sibley Group in Washington, DC. She is working towards her Play Therapy credential. Meagan is also the founder of Agents of Change Social Work Test Prep – a learning platform and community designed for social workers preparing for their licensing exams.

She loves combining her passion for learning and sharing her knowledge with the social work community. Meagan has a strong interest in tech & and innovation, specifically exploring the intersection of technology with social work practices. She is also passionate about multicultural supervision & and ethics; ensuring diverse voices are heard, understood, and supported in supervision and consultation.

Lastly, Meagan is currently a DSW student at SUNY Buffalo.

Melissa Elliott-Brogan, Owner at Sardonyx Wellness, LCSW PLLC and DSW Student

Melissa Elliott-Brogan, LCSW-R (She/her) is currently a clinical social worker that specializes in trauma and who owns a trauma-informed group practice that has one clinician and two students that are interning Sardonyx Wellness LCSW, PLLC.

She is a clinically certified trauma professional (CCTP) since 2018 and specializes in Anxiety, Panic d/o, OCD, C-PTSD, (the formally known as cluster B) PDs, Bipolar d/o, DID/Dissociative d/o, self-harm, severe and persistent disability, chronic illness, dual disorder tx, and grief and loss.

Her style of therapy uses an eclectic blend of Rogerian, Jungian, Piaget, and Yalom/Camus (Person-centered, psychoanalytic, developmental, and existential) theories and trainings in IFS, MI, DBT, and varied Mindfulness and meditation techniques.

Her early years working in psychiatric social work gave her the confidence and clinical expertise to work with just about anyone in a private practice setting. She was inspired to break away from a “clinic” environment and create a warm and inviting space for people to explore and consider their recovery.

Melissa is currently a DSW student at the University of Buffalo.

Venus Flowers

Venus Flowers is a dedicated clinical social worker with a passion for serving others and making a positive impact on the lives of individuals in need. For the past 10 years, she has had the privilege of working in the Department of Veterans Affairs, where she specializes in behavioral health homeless veteran services and VA peer support programs.

In addition to her experience within the Department of Veterans Affairs, she brings a personal connection to the work as both an Army and Air Guard veteran. This firsthand experience has provided her with a deep understanding of the challenges and sacrifices that our servicemen and servicewomen face. It has also fueled her commitment to supporting and advocating for veterans throughout their journey.

Beyond her clinical work, her passion for lifelong learning has led her to DSW studies to enhance her ability to advocate for those experiencing race-based stress, as well as an exploration of work towards implementing anti-racism strategies, and work that fosters cultural humility in allies. She believes that creating inclusive and equitable environments is essential for the well-being and success of all individuals, and she is dedicated to promoting social justice and equality.

Alex Ribbentrop

Alex is a psychotherapist specializing in complex trauma, family, and recovery.

He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Virginia and Florida, a Qualified Supervisor, EMDR Trained Clinician, and a Certified Family Trauma Professional.

Alex is the founder of Live Free Psychotherapy, a practice providing psychotherapy and clinical consultation with locations in Palm Beach County, Florida, and Northern Virginia.

Alex worked in South Florida after graduate school during one of the most challenging periods of the opioid epidemic. He saw firsthand how overwhelmed the system was and how inadequate treatment options and approaches were in many ways. For him, it highlighted how much we have to learn and really spurred an interest in further understanding the etiology of presenting issues. This led him more and more into the role of inter-generational considerations and developmental/complex trauma.
