This course is designed for social workers who are preparing for the ASWB Clinical (LCSW) exam.  The Clinical Exam is the same throughout the United States and Canada, however social workers licensed at the Clinical level have different licensure acronyms in different states including: LCSW, LICSW, and LISW. Each year, approximately 20,000 social workers take the Clinical exam.

About the Clinical (LCSW) Level ASWB Exam

If you are taking the exam on or after 8/3/26, you will have 122 multiple-choice questions, with only 110 counting towards your score (12 questions are included by the ASWB for testing).

You will have four hours to complete the examination, which is administered on a Pearson VUE computer. The test-taker is able to change answers, mark questions for later attention, skip questions, and review questions.

The overall first-attempt pass rate for the Clinical Level ASWB exam is 76.1% (ASWB).

To take this exam, you need to have a Master's degree in social work. Depending on your state's requirements, you may also need a minimum number of hours of clinical supervision by a licensed social worker.

According to the ASWB, the Clinical level exam assesses the ability to practice clinical social work requiring the application of specialized clinical knowledge and advanced clinical skills. A licensed clinical social worker often starts off by specializing with a particular client population. However, as you continue to build on your experience in the clinical area, and your career evolves, you may be able to make changes to your future without changing your profession.
