💡 Did you know?

Agents of Change ASWB exam prep has helped 100,000+ social workers pass, with video and audio lessons, hundreds of practice questions, and live study groups. Start with 10 free practice questions.

When comparing Agents of Change and LEAP, look beyond whether a provider offers a book, audio, or video. Consider which formats come together in your purchase, how you’ll get questions answered, whether the materials match the new ASWB exam, and the total price.

We recommend Agents of Change for candidates who want video, visual, and audio lessons, two live study groups every month, and materials built for the new exam, all in one course price. Created by social worker and educator Dr. Meagan Mitchell, Agents of Change connects instruction with practice, a personalized study plan, and regular chances to ask questions. LEAP’s individual guides and customizable bundles offer flexibility, but that flexibility means more separate purchases and shorter access periods to manage.

Quick answer: Why do we recommend Agents of Change?

  • Everything in one course: Video, visual, and audio lessons together for $125 or $175, instead of buying a guide, audio course, and video course separately.
  • Live engagement every month: Two live study groups are included, rather than a single paid strategy class.
  • Built for the new exam: Four 122-question practice exams that match the new ASWB format.
  • Access until you pass: No 1-, 3-, or 6-month subscriptions to renew, plus a personalized study plan and iOS and Android apps.
  • LEAP’s strength: Flexible, à la carte resources, including a detailed study guide and DSM-5-TR review materials.

2) Why Agents of Change’s Creator and Teaching Approach Matter

Agents of Change was created by Dr. Meagan Mitchell, a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with a Doctor of Social Work (DSW), a Master of Social Work (MSW), and a Master of Education. She teaches at the University of Michigan School of Social Work and has helped social workers prepare for the ASWB exam for more than 11 years.

That combination shapes the Agents of Change experience. Video explanations, visual materials, audio lessons, examples, and practice questions give you several ways into the same concept. You can watch a difficult topic being explained, review the visual material, and return to the audio when you want another pass.

Two live study groups each month give you the chance to engage, ask Meagan questions, and work through material with other learners. You have a recurring place to bring the concept or answer choice that still doesn’t make sense.

LEAP also offers instruction from experienced social work professionals. Our case for Agents of Change is its combination of learning formats in one course, recurring live engagement, built-in study tools, and clear pricing.

3) Compare the Teaching Experience, Not Just the Format Label

“Video included” doesn’t tell you everything about a course. Consider how much instruction there is, how it’s organized, whether the explanations make sense to you, and how you return to a concept when you miss a related question.

A useful lesson helps you do something with the material. After studying an intervention approach, you should be able to recognize when it fits a scenario and when another step belongs first.

LEAP’s Clinical video course offers 6 hours of studio-recorded content review and strategy. Agents of Change’s course includes 30+ hours of video, visual, and audio lessons in Basics and 50+ hours in Premium, with video walkthroughs of practice questions and two live study groups a month.

If you have a quiet study block, actively work through a new topic. If you’re listening while doing something else, use that time for review. With the Agents of Change iOS and Android apps, you can switch between video and audio wherever you are.

4) Recurring Study Groups and a Strategy Class Are Different Purchases

Recurring groups give you a regular place to ask questions as you move through a course. A strategy class gives you one focused session on approaching exam decisions. Both can help, but they meet different needs.

LEAP sells a separate 2.5-hour Test Strategy Class, a small-group Zoom session focused on task words like FIRST, NEXT, and BEST. At the review date, the live class was $65 for a single scheduled date, or $59 for a recording with one month of access.

Agents of Change includes two live study groups every month in every package, plus 30+ recorded study groups in Premium. If ongoing contact would help you stay engaged, that’s a meaningful difference. If you want answers between groups, the optional ASWB Chatbot Tutor is available 24/7 with a 7-day free trial.

Before buying, write down the questions you hope to ask. A list of real questions tells you more about your support needs than a general feeling that you should buy the biggest package.

5) Compare Individual Items With the Total Bundle

LEAP lets buyers choose among separate resources and bundles, which can be useful if you already know exactly which pieces you need. It also means a starting price may cover only one part of your plan.

At the review date, LEAP’s Clinical catalog listed a study guide from $119.50, a Quick Study audio course at $159, a video course from $199, and practice exams from $45. Bundles save 10%, and promotions can change the total.

Agents of Change Basics is $125 and Premium + Power Pack is $175 for the Masters and Clinical exams. Both include video, visual, and audio lessons, two live study groups each month, a personalized study plan, the mobile apps, and access until you pass. Premium adds 50+ hours of lessons, a 122-question timed practice exam, case vignettes with video rationales, 30+ recorded study groups, downloadable audio, and priority support. See the course choices and practice exam options.

Example Plan Price What You Get
Agents of Change Basics $125 30+ hours of video, visual, and audio lessons; practice questions; 2 live study groups a month; personalized study plan; apps; access until you pass
Agents of Change Premium + Power Pack $175 Everything in Basics, plus 50+ hours of lessons and a 122-question practice exam
LEAP guide + video + 1 practice exam About $363.50 before bundle discounts Study guide ($119.50), 6-hour video course ($199), and one practice exam with 1-month access ($45)
Add LEAP’s live strategy class +$65 One 2.5-hour live Zoom session

Before you buy from any provider, record what you’re getting:

Before purchasing Why it matters What to record
Choose the primary instruction Keeps the study sequence clear Course, guide, audio, or another starting point
Identify fresh practice Prevents paying twice for the same questions Included questions, separate tests, and overlap
Choose human support Matches help to the problem Recurring group, single class, or another service
Check access Fits the purchase to your test date Start date, expiration, and renewal requirements

6) Confirm the Practice Product Matches Your Exam

The new ASWB exam, which launched on August 3, 2026, has 122 questions (110 scored), mostly with three answer options, in 4 hours, organized into three content areas. Before buying any practice exam, confirm the current question count, blueprint, timing, and answer format.

At the review date, LEAP’s Clinical practice exam page described Exams A and B as 170 questions each, and its video course page described coverage of “all four content areas,” which matches the exam structure before August 2026. Ask LEAP whether the version you’d buy has been updated.

Agents of Change’s four full-length practice exams have 122 questions each, are timed like the new exam with a break after question 61, and include a rationale for every question. Premium includes Exam #1, and Exams #2 through #4 are $35 each.

Use sample explanations where available, and ask whether a rationale helps you make a better decision on another vignette. Try the Agents of Change free preview with 10 practice questions and rationales.

7) Read Access and Pass Assurance Terms Carefully

Agents of Change gives you access until you pass. There’s nothing to renew while you study.

LEAP sells most digital products as subscriptions: the video course comes in 1-, 3-, or 6-month options, practice exams in 1- to 4-month options with a set number of uses, and the strategy class recording for one month. LEAP’s Pass Assurance renews eligible subscriptions for free if you don’t pass. Check the terms for each item you buy.

If you expect an interruption, think it through before buying. What happens if you move your test date? Can you keep reviewing without another charge? Do different items expire on different dates?

These questions are about having the materials when you need them. They aren’t a promise that any program will produce a particular result.

8) Why We Recommend Agents of Change for an Integrated Course Experience

Learning Formats That Work Together

Agents of Change brings video, visual materials, audio, and practice into one course. You can change how you review a concept without assembling separate purchases for each format.

A Recurring Place to Ask Questions

Two live study groups a month let you engage as your studying progresses. LEAP’s strategy class is a useful one-time session, but it’s a separate purchase from the recurring groups included with every Agents of Change course.

Materials Built for the New Exam

Agents of Change’s lessons and 122-question practice exams reflect the new ASWB format, so your timed practice matches what you’ll see on test day.

Clear Pricing and No Expiration

$125 for Basics or $175 for Premium + Power Pack, with a personalized study plan, iOS and Android apps, and access until you pass.

LEAP’s Genuine Strength

LEAP’s individual guides, DSM-5-TR review materials, audio, video, and strategy class give flexibility to a buyer who wants specific items. That flexibility comes with more products to choose and more access dates to track. We recommend Agents of Change for candidates who want several learning formats and live engagement together at one clear price.
