Setting Specific Tips and Tricks on the ASWB Exam

Setting Specific Tips and Tricks

In social work, the setting matters! The field of social work is very diverse and social work can be practiced in a variety of different settings, each with its own challenges.

Most people in the field specialize in one area or practice setting within social work and often don’t get much exposure to many of the different settings tested on the LCSW, LMSW, and LSW exams.

However, the ASWB exam requires you to have knowledge about a variety of different settings including when and how to intervene.  The setting may directly impact how you will intervene and also, the correct answer on the exam.

For example, if the client is in a school or in an inpatient setting, the answers and intervention can vary dramatically.

What are some of the different common settings?

  1. Hospital/Medical
  2. School
  3. Child Welfare
  4. Inpatient / Psychiatric Treatment
  5. Community-Based
  6. Administration / Management

Learn more about these different social work settings, how to approach answering questions about each setting type, and see a practice question in the video below!
